Ultimate RC Garage exists to serve a few purposes: 1) A fun picture site for gearheads of all ages. 2) A helpful guide for anyone looking to select a custom body, select paint colors, create paint schemes, for RC cars, trucks, planes, and boats in kid-friendly language. 3) A searchable knowledgebase with examples of Tamiya paint, bodies and tires. 4) A cost-effective way to get the most out of minimal hobby investment – one RC car with many bodies and different tires. 5) A continual work-in-progress showcasing time-management, dedication and skills development. 6) An inspiration to get off your butt and give RC Therapy a try!
I chose a fine Traxxas product for my 1-year test, but there are other worthy contenders for sure! For now, it’s about the Slash 4×4 w/ TSM OBA. This truck is a monster, and also makes an Ultimate race car!
Anyone can throw down a bundle of money, and hedge a bet towards a ton of fun and happiness, but is that it – more money = more fun? No – I prove otherwise. URCG-LV’s equate to project difficulty.
Take a Traxxas Slash 4×4 w/ OBA; pretty great in all aspects. Start with that foundation, and begin your journey to making it an Ultimate! I built plenty of options to blueprint your own build if you’re new to RC.
Start with Uncut Body. Alter stance via tires and body mounts. Create sleek masks and paint scheme. Paint carefully – sticker it perfectly – done! Rock your own style, and you’ll enjoy the hobby even more!

Each car I create is a vision of what I’d drive. My standards were way beyond my skill level, so I started going 4 times slower than a Professional RC Hobbyist. My drive to see a vision through is addiction-like.
From your first cut into a blank body, to your color-scheme, masking decisions and paint prep… all of it will make you sweat the first few times for sure. Mistakes are made. Go through the process with open eyes.
Rushing a hobby is silly – arguably oxymoronic! Go slow and enjoy it, otherwise you’ll miss all the opportunities to learn for the next project. Aim for quality effort and maybe surprise yourself!
The Garage is filled with an assortment of vehicles and colors. Browse them all your own way, or drill straight into a Make.

You know how you get to Carnegie Hall? (PRACTICE!)
I repeat the following enough to write them down once and for all…
(“Going for RC-Therapy!” – RR)
“Prep work and being prepared for the Unknown is key. Not rushing through the Unknown is crucial. You can put the best paint job in history on a turd, and it’s still going to be a piece of…
RCRobbie - Business Owner & Professional Dreamer“If you have nothing to be passionate about you might want to check for a pulse. If you have one, head to your local hobby store and ask for help. Get on the most cost-effective fun on the planet!
RCRobbie - Graphic Designer & Full-Stack Developer“The most interesting of cakes have layers – paint your car in layers. Plan your colors and stock up on TONS of white, silver and black for use as Backing Colors. Save your discarded poly-carbonate body clippings for paint tests, if you suck at color combos or dressing yourself in the morning 😉
RCRobbie - Copywriter & Project Manager“Picking paint colors are like picking fine flowers for a lady; if you don’t pick the right color for the right occasion you’re going to look like a dork. Research some Hot Rod magazines if your vision isn’t tangible enough to chase.
RCRobbie - Motivational Speaker & Brand Visionary“Beautiful engineering is hard to look past when you’re a geek. I find a sleek body, hull or wing to be inspirational. Couple that with the right colors and you may create “functional art.”
RCRobbie - JetSki Enthusiast“You can Photoshop a picture to perfection with some skill, so look closely at my pics. Take in all of the defects that make me proud, because the ones you can’t see aren’t there. I did good for an Amateur, and at the conclusion to each project that was always a joyous surprise even to me… if you experience the same take a moment and share it my way!
RCRobbie - Ultimate RC Garage AdminSee how a project comes together, and read up on some neat tips and tricks. The 1-year mark for my experiment is approaching, and when done I’ll post a few more articles detailing some of my favorite builds, how to setup for one, how to mask them, and how to paint like a champ no matter the season.
If you present an interesting request, maybe something can be arranged for your build. I do not sell what you see here at the moment, but the offers are flattering as heck!
Would you like to sell your car? Maybe we’ll want it if we can come to a fair arrangement, but at the moment I’m not looking to pick anything up. I can pass the word on though!
